BA (BRITISH MINIATURE SERIES)
BA (British Association) threads, also known as the British Miniature Series, are a fine thread standard used for small screws and precision applications, primarily in electronics, instrumentation, and model engineering. Unlike other British thread standards, BA threads have a 47.5° thread angle and are based on metric principles, making them unique among British thread forms.
Characteristics:
- Thread Profile: 47.5° angle
- Thread Type: Fine pitch, based on a metric system (but with sizes labeled in an inverted logarithmic scale)
- Common Sizes: BA 0 (largest) to BA 10 (smallest)
- Applications: Clocks, watches, electronics, optical instruments, model engineering, precision mechanics
- Advantages:
- Highly precise, suitable for miniature components
- Stronger thread engagement compared to coarser thread standards
- Still used in vintage and specialized industries
BA threads are still found in older British electronics, instrumentation, and watchmaking, but they have been largely replaced by metric threads in modern applications.
